Reeves Center for Mathematics Education

 

Mission

The Daniel H. Reeves Center for Mathematics Education has a threefold mission to advance the quality of school mathematics in Texas.
  • Teaching. The Center will establish and coordinate innovative inservice programs for mathematics teachers and will assist academic departments in enhancing the University's ongoing preservice mathematics teacher education programs.
  • Service. The Center will support and further school mathematics by sponsoring appropriate inservice and consulting services for teachers of mathematics throughout the state.
  • Research. The Center will sponsor research to improve school mathematics curriculum, teaching, and learning.
  • The Center is an agency of Sam Houston State University, originally formed among the participating agencies of the SHSU Departments of Mathematical and Information Sciences, and Curriculum and Instruction, along with the Region VI Education Service Center.

  • Daniel H. Reeves, Jr.

    Daniel H. Reeves, Jr., was born May 12, 1925, in Burkburnett, Texas. He was a decorated veteran of World War II and a wonderful man who was "philosopical with a jolly flair." Dan dedicated his life and career as an educator and mathematics professor at Sam Houston State University teaching his students not only how to become excellent teachers and other professionals, but also how to utilize their God-given talents to their fullest potential in helping others. He passed away in Houston on December 14, 2006.
